Cool tips – thank you, Ian! First, scrolling it through on-the-fly I didn’t found them soooo groundbraking, maybe because I consider myself as an advanced hobbyst (and I read your Visual flo book:)). But looking more deeply into it, reading your thoughts I found that if I’d like to summarize basic concepts to make one’s basic level photos better, these concepts are really essential and inspiring. Every one of them has the potential to make up a whole project, especially because of your well-chosen dreamscapes used as illustrations – they suggest: “you can do it too!”. So all my respect, thanks for making it public for free.
And a question: what do you think about a sub-site linked to your blog as a dedicated compositional critique forum for landscape photographers? Anyone interested could upload an image to get feedback from you and your fellow bloggers regarding the balance, dynamics, appeal of the work. I think it could get popular in an instant and could have a nice contribution to your educational mission. So?
Best wishes,
András (from Hungary)
Hmmm, that is certainly something for us to consider . . . I’m not sure how we’d handle that technically, something for me to look into I guess, thanks for the suggestion!
If you want to keep is simple: you create a separate e-mail address, we send the photos, you pick some and take them apart
Then, the image + your thoughts could be published as a normal blog post, f.e. as “Acid river weekly”
My aim would be to have honest and hard opinions, not just glorifying 5 words for every artsy-fartsy attempt you get on 500px & Co.
However, to have someone’s best pictures for critique you should consider watermarking the published versions on the blog or other ways of protection. If I can support you anyhow, just let me know!
Regards,
András
