Top 5 Tips for Winter Photography

My latest post to the Outdoor Photographer Magazine blog, Top 5 Tips for Winter Photography, is now online. Don’t use the cold as an excuse—get out there this winter and make some great photographs! And don’t forget to help me get to the ultimate winter environment: please vote to send me to the North Pole, and spread the word—I need all the help I can get!

The image below was taken on a frigid morning in the Grand Tetons of Wyoming. A layer of inversion fog formed overnight, and everything it touched was frosted with ice. High clouds behind the mountains caught the rosy pink light of dawn. I ran around like a crazy person trying to find a composition that would work before the light faded!

  • Your post today made me laugh. When you said you “ran around like a crazy person trying to find a composition that would work before the light faded”, I could just picture myself doing that on many occasions. I think we artists are all a little crazy. But that’s part of what makes us special.
