PopPhoto magazine article and cover
I have an article in October’s PopPhoto magazine (as well as online) on Animal Scenics. Also, my image of spawning horseshoe crabs below is featured on their subscription cover—or so I’ve been told, I haven’t seen it so I could be wrong! (Aparently PopPhoto does two covers for each issue, one for subscription copies and one for newsstand copies, so my image won’t appear on the newsstand version). This is my fourth article in PopPhoto this year, and hopefully I will have many more to come. To see more of my “wildlife landscapes” images, please visit my Wildscapes Gallery.

"Ancient Spawn" - Horseshoe crabs, Delaware bay
The image was made in late May on the New Jersey side of the Delaware Bay. Every May and June, hundreds of thousands of horseshoe crabs come ashore on the Bay to spawn at sunset during the full and new moons. I try to photograph the event every year, but it’s kind of hit-or-miss. Sometimes no crabs appear, other times they overwhelm the beach in a frenzy of crab lovin’. It is truly an amazing spectacle, one of the most incredible wildlife events on the planet. I can’t wait to shoot the crab spawn again next year!
I wrote an article some time ago for Nature Photographers Online Magazine about the horseshoe crab spawn, for those who are interested. Also, my book 50 Amazing Things You Must See and Do in the Greater D.C. Area has an entry devoted to the spawn. Good luck finding crabs!
Technical specs: Canon 5D Mark II camera, 14-24mm lens, ISO 200, f/16, 0.8 seconds.

Yes, it was the cover of Pop. Photographer but they cropped the bottom 25% so this post looks much better. Beautiful shot.
Congrats! This is a very interesting image. Remind me not to walk barefoot at night if ever I wander the shores of the Delaware Bay
Great read, I bookmarked.
