Greetings from Mt. Rainier!
I’m halfway through my Rainier trip, taking a small break from camping to catch up on some admin stuff and to wait out bad weather. And when I say bad weather, I mean blue sunny skies. Not a cloud in the sky for days—most folks think that’s grand, but for us nature photographers it’s purgatory.
I spent most of the first part of my trip working the west side of the park, which is great for sunrise but not so much for sunset. I focused primarily on the Paradise area of the park (aptly named), which is currently awash with flowers. I made side trips to several waterfalls and Van Trump Park, a high alpine meadow area similar to Paradise. For the second half of the trip, I will be focusing on the east side of the park, which is great for sunsets but—you guessed it—not so great for sunrises.
Anyway, since I am working on my tiny netbook computer which isn’t properly calibrated, I won’t be doing any image processing until I return home next week. But it would be rude of me to leave you with nothing, so here’s an image that seems reasonably safe to process on an uncalibrated monitor. It’s nothing special, mind you, just a taste of some of the scenery that I have enountered so far. If it looks funny, remember that I’m working with a poor quality monitor at the moment. When I’m back next week, I’ll start putting up the good stuff!

As a local, I look forward to seeing what catches your eye and what you come up with. By the way, did you mean Van Trump Park? Haven’t heard of Van Dorn Park.
Cheers,
Steve
yeah, I meant Van Trump, thanks! I will edit the main entry . . .
Cool pic, was just up there in the fog on Saturday. Always a great trip to the mountain regardless of the weather. Have fun and can’t wait to see more. EE
Wildflowers in Sept? I love it. Great shots! I wanna go.
